Masseria Bernardini is situated on the Ionic coast, two km from Nardò – city of art, rich of wonderful baroque architectures in province of Lecce – fifteen km from Gallipoli and few minutes’ drive from Porto Selvaggio Natural Park beach.
Masseria Bernardini is found in the red earth of Salento country between olives, prickly pears and cornfield.
The building goes back to the XIV century, it has swimming pool and it is situated ten minutes drive from the seaside.
It is different from bed&breakfast, from farm-holidays, from hotel and from upmarket residence!

Masseria Bernardini has been renovated following a Francesco Stasi project and belongs to Cartiere Vannucci’s Group.
A double wall protects the Masseria.
The first wall, higher and more protective, pre-dates the renovation and is built with typical ancient tuff ashlars, which still contains large and charming fossil shell.
Inside this first wall is situated the core of the Masseria, a building with two floors that incorporates owners’ house and other three apartments; three more suites are also located inside the wall but separate from the central building.
They are all surrounded by an internal garden recreated with olive and citrus trees that well integrated between the typical red land and chianche (big local stones), where the swimming pool is found too.
At the first floor there is also a wonderful terrace with a boundless view over the countryside.
The second wall has been completely rebuilt by hand with dry stones and surrounds a wide green area where a newly planted young olive grove is situated.
There is also an ancient farmyard, which in the past was dedicated to wheat accumulation.
All Masseria Bernardini suites share a quiet, informal, light atmosphere and a style that highlights the contrast between old and new.
They are all really different in shape and structure, but have in common a wide space as well as a special character that makes them unique.
Harmony and creativity merge pleasantly with contemporary art colours: in fact in every suite it is possible to appreciate paintings from Cartiere Vannucci Art Collection, including current protagonist of new Italian art, like Matteo Basilè, Luca Pignatelli, Velasco, Nathalie Du Pasquier, Alessandro Bazan, Paolo Consorti, Paolo Fiorentino and others.
Floors - same in each room, from living-rooms to bathrooms – have been reinterpreted using square slabs made by a mix of elements, characterized by soft and neutral colours, which mix perfectly with Lecce’s typical yellow stone.
Local craftsmen re-crafted all wood frames – which have shutters - following ancient drawing.
The bathrooms are especially comfortable places, characterized by soft colours and natural elements; washstands have been carved from whole blocks of Lecce stone.
Bedrooms represent the image of a fresh and romantic privacy with wooden beds, some with poster beds, others with oriental style beds. All provided with latex mattresses.
The living room areas have different shape and size in each suite; all communicate with the outside area and are usually subdivided into dining and relaxing area.
Kitchens have a linear and minimalist design in bleached oak and are all equipped with gas cooker, oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, and washing machine.
All suites come with climate control plus fancoil and include a private outside patio.
The decoration and furnishing of Masseria Bernardini has been carefully conceived, as becomes evident from the list of suppliers, who include some of the best Italian design companies.
Famous names like Cappellini, Gervasoni, Meridiani and Oluce. Textiles, furnishing and beds are by NAP.
How to reach us
From Brindisi airport:
- take the freeway Brindisi-Lecce;
- just before arriving in Lecce, take the west ring road (direction Gallipoli);
- keep on the west ring road for about 10 km till the first exit for Gallipoli (13B);
- once taken the exit, keep on for about 15 km till Nardò exit;
- once arrived in Nardò follow the road sign for Avetrana;
- once taken Avetrana street, after about 2,5 km, take the only country street that you will find on your left, with the road sign “Masseria Bernardini”;
- follow the masseria perimeter till the entrance.
From Lecce:
- take the freeway Lecce-Gallipoli;
- keep on for about 20km till Nardò exit;
- once arrived in Nardò follow the road sign for Avetrana;
- once taken Avetrana street, after about 2,5 km, take the only country street that you will find on your left, with the road sign “Masseria Bernardini”;
- follow the masseria perimeter till the entrance;
