Farmhouse Italy

Farmhouse Italy

When you close your eyes and imagine the archetypal farmhouse in Italy, what kind of picture springs to mind? For many the enduring image is that of an old, solid, square house on a hill surrounded by cypresses.

Let's build on the image - maybe the farmhouse is in Tuscany, its roof capped with terracotta pantiles, its solid walls of handmade brick and plaster reflecting the very special light which comes between dusk and nightfall, enriching and burnishing the colours of the buildings and the land until they seem to glow. Or maybe the farmhouse is in Umbria, surrounded by gentle hills and the tapestry of small fields and woods so typical of the region. It has beams inside of course, made of chestnut or oak, and huge open fireplaces ready to burn sweet smelling wood in winter. The floors are of handmade terracotta tiles, that uncopiable pinky-red and perhaps there are animal stalls downstairs to convert, their long wooden mangers still intact, their rows of holes used to tether the animals worn smooth with years of use. Outside are vines, olives, roses and rosemary and of course a terrace so you can sip a glass of Orvieto or Chianti, enjoy the view and relax. At Landscape Properties we are intent on making your dream a reality. We have many farmhouses throughout Italy for sale, although the majority of farmhouses are in Tuscany and Umbria. Some are suitable for restoration, a process we can help you with, others may need some work or none at all. If you are looking for a project in Italy, then perhaps taking on a farmhouse which has already got a licence as a bed and breakfast or agriturismo may be the ideal solution to provide you with a home and income. Or perhaps your dream farmhouse in Italy could be turned into a small hotel. Another option would be to use it for some of the year yourself and then rent it out for the remainder. Farmhouses in Tuscany and Umbria are always popular with visitors to the area and the rental returns can be very high in peak season. Then again, you may be so enchanted with your new home that you decide to make the move to Italy a permanent one, as so many others have done before you.
