Milan (Milano) is located in the north of Italy in the region of Lombardy (Lombardia) and is one of the wealthiest cities in the country. It is the unofficial business capital and has the largest population of any city in Italy (over 4 million inhabitants), many international companies have their bases here. It is also Italy's style capital and there are many fashionable shops and boutiques as well as the famous opera house of La Scala and the magnificent Duomo cathedral. It is also appealingly close to Lake Como and Lake Maggiore.
