Rome

Rome (Roma)- well, all roads lead here allegedly. The capital of modern Italy is located in the region of Lazio on the central west coast of Italy below Tuscany. The city is lively by day and by night and one of the most fascinating aspects is the juxtaposition of ancient and modern. Roman buildings are everywhere but they are absorbed into the city and a part of it, rather than fenced off and seen as 'separate'. This happens a lot all over Italy. Because the country is so full of history - you don't have to travel very far anywhere to come across a monument, ancient bridge, church, statue or work of art - people are accustomed to it and absorb it naturally into their everyday lives. Rome is most famous for the Colosseum, St Peter's Square and of course the Vatican, which is a separate state. It is also crammed with fabulous places to eat and drink.
