Information about puglia Properties
Where is it?
Italy is shaped like a long boot and Puglia is in the south east – basically taking up the whole heel and spur of the boot! It s bigger than you might imagine, with a surface area of 19,000 sq. kilometres (Tuscany is just a fraction bigger at 23,000.)
Why buy real estate in Puglia?
Basically because it is a beautiful place and buying Puglia property represents a good investment! As the website of the popular Channel Four series Place in the Sun says: "Up and coming Puglia on the Adriatic coast – driven by no frills airlines flying into the region – is one to consider before it gets too pricey." It adds: "It's one of the hotspots of this prime tourist area, but property is popular and prices are rising fast."
The region is served by two airports – Bari and Brindisi, with Ryanair flying there direct. Alitalia and British airways also go there via Milan or Rome.
Rental potential is good if you buy a holiday home in Puglia as the weather guarantees a long season, usually defined as between April and October.
The southernmost tip of Puglia - Salentino - has the distinction of being surrounded by two seas, the Ionian on the west and the Adriatic on the east. This is the part of Puglia that Landscape Properties has chosen for its amazing masseria project. Masserie are traditional flat-roofed Pugliese farmhouses usually on one level and built around a courtyard. There are old ones left to restore, but they are getting pricey and harder to find. Our alternative is a custom-built masseria in its own five-acre olive grove.. You have 21st- century standards but the house is built of local stone in traditional style, using techniques passed down through the generations.
Landscape also have other kinds of properties in Puglia available to buy, so take a look at the database.
What is there to see in Salentino?
As well as the beautiful white sandy beaches and sparkling seas, Salentino has a jewel in its crown – the city of Lecce. We bet you probably haven't heard of this place. It’s a white city full of amazing Baroque architecture and buzzing with life. It is known as 'the Florence of the south ' which should give you some clue as to its beauty. The city is mainly built of white Leccese stone and many buildings have some of the most stunning carvings you'll ever see. A bonus is its proximity to the sea. Add designer shops, an amazing array of restaurants and bars and friendly locals to the mix and you can see why it is a popular holiday destination for Italians – always a good sign.
The port of Otranto is another place well worth a visit. Its ancient castle juts out into the sea and luxury yachts bob about in the harbour while their owners sightsee and investigate the restaurants and shops of the town.
These are just two of the many fascinating sights in Salentino. One very recent convert is Oscar-winner Dame Helen Mirren, who has just bought a house near Lecce in Salentino. Apart from having famous neighbours, (and Dame Helen is not the only celeb in the region) buying a property in Puglia is a sound financial investment too.
